I had a folder fail on me in the field when the lock gave out under pressure. It was not a serious injury but it was enough to get my attention. Since then I have started carrying a small fixed blade as a backup. It is simple and does not depend on any moving parts...the simplest option is the one you can trust the most.

Folder locks, they're fine until they're not. That's why having a fixed blade as a backup is such an old-school reliable move, there’s just nothing to go wrong right when you really need it to work.

Yeah folders are handy until they remind you they’re still mechanical at the worst possible time

Yeah a lock failure will change your mindset fast, simplicity starts looking a lot more reliable after that.
