What’s something your younger self was wrong about in shooting or hunting?

What did you younger self get totally wrong about shooting or hunting. I used to think better gear meant better shots, not practice but I learned the hard way, sadly..what's yours?

I used to think you needed those big magnum rounds to take down a deer right. But it turns out, where you hit em matters way more.
