I am finally getting around to loading for my Winchester Model 70, CRF Pre-64 24" barrel 1:9, in 264 Win Mag. I am looking for longer range shooting & accuracy [not necessarily expansion] and looking at the 135gr ATip and Berger 144gr LRHT. I have H4831sc on hand but if someone has a better bullet or powder recommendation, I am certainly open to suggestions. I understand every rifle, shooter, lot#.....etc. are different and I have reloading manuals, but to work up a load for powder load and jump/CBTO in the 264 WM I would wind up with enough throat erosion to have to re-do my load development as soon as I found one the rifle liked. Just looking for pet loads, ideas/starting points for bullets, powder, powder load and jump or CBTO. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!

Have you tried seating the Berger 144 gr LRHT with a slightly longer jump to see if it tightens groups without increasing throat erosion?

I am looking at the 144gr LRHT, which Berger talks about working with a longer jump, so that may be the solution. Rather than seating close to the lands and possibly having to lower the load, although 64,000psi is no slouch, this longer jump may be the ticket. Do you have a favorite powder for the 144s? I have some H4831sc, which has worked well in my 7mm RM, but am looking to to find a good one for the 264 WIn Mag....again, would rather not go through a barrel to find out. I like the 5 shot strings over the 3 shot. Just seems to give a better read on loads. Thanks for the reply!

Those bullets are great choices. Berger LRHT excels at long range. You've got H4831SC. Chronograph loads, experiment with seating depth and CBTO, then report which combo groups best

Thank you for the response. I found a box of ELD-M 140gr. which had fallen behind my stack of bullets, so I will try them for now. Because of barrel life in the 264WM, I am going to load up 10 rounds with 62.00grs of the H4831sc 0.020" jump and see how it shoots. My plan is, or maybe was, to see how well this shoots and if I can get <.5MOA leave it at that, but I know myself and I bet I will end up trying different loads and different CBTOs. I was hoping to find the unicorn load that is super-precise right out of the gate and could just start shooting it. Thank you for the response and once I start developing different loads and shooting 'em, I will post reports.

Capt Jon, thanks for responding.....If I had gone with the Bergers, that's what I would have done. You got me thinking though. Looks like I will be playing with jump and loads. Will let everyone know how it goes. Thanks
