I put a $800 scope on a $400 rifle

Some people say match your scope price to your rifle price. I say put good glass on whatever you got and cheap rifle shoots way better now. Is this backwards or does it actually make sense?

That’s not backwards at all, good glass makes any rifle shoot better than fancy steel with bad optics.

I actually agree with that idea. Nice glass helps you see what the rifle can really do. A lot of cheap rifles shoot well enough to deserve better scopes.

I am in this camp also, but I will say that if/when I go to sell that particular rifle, I change the scope out, reality is it will not up the price to $1200. I did this on one last year and got asking price for the gun, it was the scope that came with it originally. It shot really well, but the better glass improved me more than it did the gun for sure
