Not sure if there are many traditional Muzzle Loading enthusiasts out there, but I want to put in a plug for the N-SSA and the upcoming fall matches. I will post a link to the organization below if you want to check it out.

At any rate, we use Civil War era military small arms (revolvers, smooth bore muskets, carbines, rifled muskets), cannons, and mortars in competition. The competition is not North against South but rather teams (blue or gray) equally competing for best scores. There are both team and individual matches, usually they run Fri-Sun, with the musket match (rifled musket, rifle-musket) on Sunday morning, usualy the shoot itself lasts about 2-2 1/2 hours.
The next regional shoot is in Capron (Boykins) Va, in Southhampton County on Sept 19-21, with the musket match on the 21st starting at or about 10:00 a.m. It is free to attend, there is food, drinks, etc., (not free). Parking is free and it does get crowded.
The actual address of the "fort" is:
14060 Pinopolis Road
Boykins, VA, 23827
My team, Richmond Volunteer Militia (RVM) is looking to add team members, so if you are interested in going, send me a PM and I will tell you what I know. We shoot in the Tidewater Region and have members from all over Tidewater, Richmond, Surry and Smithfield and the surrounding areas. You do not have to be a crack shot, I am not but it is a lot of fun, like my Father-in-Law used to say, "It's the most fun I have had with my clothes on"
Hope to hear from you,
Monk (AKA Surrywoodman)
