I need a VA holster that can handle heat and the occasional cold snap. I want something breathable and comfy enough to wear all day that keeps my gun safe. Should I go with leather or Kydex? IWB or OWB? what's best for going from the woods to the city?

I've carried both kinds of holsters here in Virginia, and Kydex is the way to go in summer since it stops sweat. Leather's nice when it's cold, though. IWB feels better when I'm in town but I like OWB in the woods. What gun are you carrying?

I have both. Being more of a traditionalist, I like leather better. Kydex tends to scratch the finish easier but does not hold moisture. I use OWB (paddle type) because I have enough trouble keeping my pants where they need to be. If I used an IWB I would look like a gangbanger.
Look a 1791 gun leather. They make quality (important) holsters reasonably priced.

Inside-the-waistband Kydex holsters are the way to go for hiding guns in Virginia, but outside-the-waistband is where it's at if you're in the woods or just want to be comfy

I have a 1911 and can't do IWB, as I have a belly. And besides, the 2.5lb full size 1911 almost pulls my pants down! Soooo, I opted for a really cool, reproduction M3 Tanker holster off Amazon. Extremely comfortable and hangs right there at your lower left ribcage.
