I am looking for what might be an odd gun. A 223 lever action, used and with a threaded barrel if possible. It will be a working gun so I don't need to start at $1000. Are there better options to find guns? Are gun shows worth the effort and time? Looks and condition are not important to me. Thanks.

I have seen a few bolt guns at the range but that was a lot of years ago, not levers though. That would be an interesting find. Sometimes at gun shows there are these tables on the side walls that have other things than the run of the mill, latest and greatest. They are the smaller guys, private sellers if you will and can have hard to find things. Have you check any of the modern companies like Ruger or the like to see if someone might be making one these days? I wish you the best of luck.

They make them in several brands. But there is a premium price. I just need a working gun and I wondered if the gun shows would be the way to find what I need.

Look at Henry. They are about the only manufacturer out there that I see.

I've found a few hidden gems at gun shows, mostly older lever-actions and AR parts but it's a mixed bag. Prices can be decent if you're patient, and you sometimes get to handle the gun before buying

Gun shows and gun shops....let them know you are looking. Most of them have contacts and talk to a lot more people about guns for sale. They may even let you put a card or flyer up.

Chippia & Rossi do not offer them. As far as I know, Henry is the only one who does in their Long Ranger series. I have one chambered in .308. I also have a Browning BL-81 chambered in .22-250

About 8 years ago Browning offered their BLR in .223. I don't know if they still do.

About eight years ago (2017), Browning chambered their BLR in .223. I am unsure if they still do.

I think you'll have to get it threaded yourself. The Henry LR, the Sako Finnwolf, and the Browning were not available factory threaded if I am not mistaken.
The only one that might be under $1,000 used would be the Henry. The Sako for sure and the Browning (most likely) are going to bring over $1,000 on the used market.

Presumably a hog gun for the farm?

Just checked the official Henry site. The Henry Long Ranger Express and the Lever Action Supreme rifles both have factory threaded barrels for suppressors. MRSP is $1229 to $1324. Their other Long Ranger lever action .223/5.56 models do not have factory threaded barrels.

You can probably find them for around S1100 your LGS can probably get you one from a distributor for <MSRP. Threading a barrel will probably be between $100-$200. You may be able to find a Henry or Browning BLR used. Good luck with your pursuit.

Thanks for picking that up. I was wrong when I said that Henry didn't have a threaded model. Their base models aren't threaded, but these certainly are.

Please forgive me Virginia 01. I was not saying you were wrong. I was just proving information from the Henry website. As Jim0001 said, many times a LGS can have lower prices. MSRP is just a guideline for dealers. Deals can be had out there, if one is patient.
