Practice regularly, you don't have to burn a ton of ammo at each range session, but practice a LOT

Best advice given to me is true of handguns and clay sports, or really any competitive shooting.
Practice does not make perfect if you practice poor skills.
If you practice badly, then practicing more is not a benefit. Get trained first, and then practice. Then you'll be practicing correctly.
Practice with instructors from time to time, even after training. More training is better. You can't see your own mistakes.
