Just FYI, my wife and I got into a couple of doomsday movies last weekend and one on Amazon Prime turned out to be pretty good. It was made in 1962 and stars Ray Milland, I think it is called Year Zero. It was released shortly before the Cuban Missile Crisis. So the cool thing is that so many of the prep stuff in there is practiced today, and the main character (Milland) seems really well versed in what is needed but without being a prepper, he just uses common sense and maybe some prior military knowledge, although it doesn't say he ever served in the military. Check it out if you get a chance
 
The movie is called 'Panic in Year Zero'. Ray Milland directed it and starred in it.

If you like the star, Ray Milland , then you should see Lost Weekend, a groundbreaking film that won Milland the Oscar and Golden Globe for Best Actor.


(Funny that the family name of the characters in Year Zero is Baldwin...but not Alec.)
 
If you are a fan of the genre of post-apocalyptic movies, then I'll mention that you should watch "The Omega Man" with Charleston Heston, and then watch "I am Legend" with Will Smith. Both made from the same book. Fun to see the changes in film techniques..

Also, going way back, try to see FIVE, a movie from 1951, about a post nuclear apocalypse world. The story unfolds like a season of The Walking Dead, without the zombies. Or see The World, the Flesh and the Devil, 1959. It's interesting to see that the end of the world portrayed in movies is not a new idea ( and an idea that has been kicking around since the New Testament, at least).
 
The is another one with Vincent Price also based on the book that I am Legend and Omega Man were based on made in 1964, Last Man on Earth.

Agree, not a new idea and ramped up (it seems), with the Cold War in our times. I don't remember FIVE I think I will check that out.
 
The Last Man on Earth was both the poorest production quality and the most true adaption of the book, simultaneously. I think it's only a good movie for fans of the genre who take their movie watching seriously..

Fun note about Vincent Price: as a young man he was considered tall and handsome, and sometimes played the part of the hunk. See Laura (1944) for a good example. Growing up watching movies as reruns on broadcast TV, I only saw him as the older creepy guy...
